Holly had been cranky the last few days because she is teething, she has been waking up at least once a night to eat and be changed, so I have been up late with her. She was too cranky to not get a nap since her sleeping was so restless lately, so it was nice to cuddle with her in my bed and have her take a nice long nap. After she woke up she ate and was all rested and happy to play with Katie during her OT/IDS Appointment.
Katie was super excited to see Holly with her almost crawling skills. She was shocked to see how her world has grown, she hadn’t been over for about 10 days, and last time she was here there was a quilt folded in half, now it is an entire blanket with baby quilts side by side in order to cover it, and then a top cover, so basically the entire living room floor. When it was the smaller quilt we would put her in the center and as she lounged from each side she would get just passed the edge and almost hit her head on the hard wood floor. So now we have on each corner, ocean time, the nest, and the red pillow, the last corner is near the couch where I normally sit, so when she is in the center of the blanket, she can crawl in every direction and find something to do and to contain her, for the moment that is.
So Katie’s goal for the day was to get Holly to pull her shoulders down and back. When she is on all fours she doesn’t lift her head but Katie observed that it is in part because she is hunched up, so you can’t really put your head back from that position. But whenever she put her hands on Holly’s shoulders Holly would fuss and protest, she tried to lightly pull her neck out a little, or in a rotation one side at a time let a shoulder pull back and down, but it wasn’t super successful. We worked on the sitting, and crawling and rotating, and another thing Katie was trying to do is when she was in the crawl stance getting her to balance on one hand and hold a toy.
We talked about how OT’s and PT’s were similar but different; a PT looks at the large gross motor movements, whereas an OT is much more practical. She said there is a say, that a PT will teach you to walk, and an OT will teach you to Dance, they teach you the real world activities. So we had a great session with Katie
Holly took a good nap after Katie’s session, and we had fun listening to music and playing when she woke up. When Daddy came home I fed her some more bananas. I let Joel feed her which he really enjoyed. Holly had a little bit of trouble falling asleep, she was up until about 11;00 but once she fell asleep she slept through the night which was the first time in the last few days.
