Lions Loose @ The Library

Here we are at the Rockridge Library waiting to see the Spookie Stories. All the kids dressed up, Holly loved this little Giraffe. It was so cute seeing the little Lion stalking the tall Giraffe. She still had a lot of energy so she was running all over the stacks, but I was able to get her to settle down for a few minutes and color. She really liked the yellow crayon, but she couldn't see her marks well. She was actually really good about not throwing all of the books of the shelves. She would flip through them, pick out one and carry it around for a bit, turn the pages, but then she actually put them back. She found the library computer and really wanted to climb onto the chair and play with it. She wasn't able to get up on her own yet, not that that stopped her from trying.Mommy is a softie though and picked her up and put her on the seat. She immediately started typing away. The screen was on a book search so it wasn't like she could mess anything up. She had a blast. But she was soon distracted by all of the fun costumes, Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles, Witches, Animals, all kinds of fun creatures every which way, she was so excited to explore. Here is Sarah our little pumpkin drawing and coloring away. She did her fair share of running around, but she was so good about sitting and paying attention to the markers and coloring. Here Holly is playing with a library flyer. She likes the bright color, and of course she didn't have to sneak behind the librarian's desk to find it. She would never be so mischievous. This is Sophia. Her mom Jennifer set up the play date. Sophia is older then Sarah and Holly so this is our first time getting together. I think her mom said she is about two and a half. She was such a sweetie, she was a bumble bee and her costume was so cute, but she didn't want to wear her tutu bee skirt. Her mom was really nice and we have a few more playdates scheduled. Here is Sarah playing with Holly's little orange flyer. She may not have been an accomplice in her crime, but she was more then happy to enjoy the fruits of her labor. I love her little smile and laugh. This was another little girl attending the Evening Story time. She was a little sugar plum fairy. So adorable. But like Holly she was not eager to sit still and listen, she wanted to run and play too.
Here is the librarian telling us her first story. It was a felt book with 5 little pumpkins and a witch flying high above the patch, collecting each one as she flew by. Holly actually liked this story and paid attention.
She had listened to stories like this in music class before, and it is usually easy to get her to stay still for a few minutes at a time. Many of the kids were much older, so they were having a blast. But the main event was this little shadow puppet show. This really intrigued Holly. She was getting hot and hungry though, so we took of her mane so she could cool down. And then I made her a yummy bottle. She really was eager for this. She laid in my lap and listened to Little Red Riding Hood, watching the light and dark shadows as the characters moved in the little box.I think the fact that she was distracted by the bottle, let her pay attention to the story, but she was curious. Sarah was really enjoying it too, she didn't even need a bribe to sit in her mommies lap.First Little Red encounters the Wolf in the Forest, and then here she is at Grandma's house. It was such a neat idea to use the light box and shadow puppets, it was an interesting way to tell a familiar story. But because the shadow box had to be plugged in the librarian was adamant that the little ones could not run around anywhere near it, so I had to keep her restrained or take her to the back of the room.So once the bottle was gone and she was ready to run and play we were off to visit the Sugar Plum Fairy, and the Little Tiger, who were also Playing int he back of the room. By that time the Librarian was on to a more sophisticated story. And the little lion found a book of her own, to stack and pull and flip through. She had a lot of fun though, but in the end Mommy was tired of chasing Holly around and she wasn't listening to the stories any more so we headed home.
