Sick Baby

Holly goes to bed Tuesday night with her nightly Benedryl for allergies.

She wakes up around Midnight (weird - it makes you sleepy - sometimes) needs a Pacifier.

By 4:00 AM she is in bed with us and then throws up and has a fever.

Joel stays home from work on Wednesday and we cancel both Speech and Feeding therapy.

We give Holly does of Motrin every 4-6 hours, keep her hydrated and her fever spikes at 102ish

We decide to cancel her PT Appt for the morning.

She suddenly has energy Wednesday night - I guess the Motrin kicked in and maybe her sleeping and being listless all day had something to do with that - so she is up playing till 1:00 AM

Holly wakes Thursday morning by 7:00 but the fever is downish and she seems a little better She eats a whole container of Yogurt and 1/2 a container of Oatmeal Banana Peach.

Daddy goes to work, but we decide to skip our afternoon play date.

Holly goes down for a nap, and she wakes with a fever of 104.4

Mommy calls Daddy and then we call the Advice Nurse, its been only 36 hours of fever officially.

*If she hits 105 we go to the ER. * If she has a fever in the morning we come see the Doctor.

We give her fluids the best we can - at this point she is still taking 1-2 ounces every hour, and peeing. The doctor says not to try and give her cold compresses, it could put her body into shock, but as a last resort if she doesn't go down to 102ish with the Motrin, a lukewarm bath.

She gets Motrin and Benedryl around 9:00 Her fever does drop to about 102

Thursday Night - She refuses to go to bed. She freaks when we try to get her to stay in bed, she continues to climb out of bed and she is crying unless we let her "play"

Daddy goes to bed

Mommy feeds her a midnight snack (more yogurt) - she keeps walking to the fridge, maybe she is trying to tell me she is hungry - she won't take a bottle.

We try bed again at 1:30 but she throws a fit, Daddy gets up for Moral Support and Holly is up "playing" till 4:00 AM

We cancel her Speech, OT/IDS, and PT Appts for Friday, and Swim Class.

She wakes at 8:00 she is cranky, but Mommy coaxes her back to sleep.

At 11:00 her fever is only 99.9 but we call the Doctor to make an Appt for 5:00.

Daddy stays home again, he is exhausted.

At 2:00 her fever is 102.5 and we give her some Motrin. She cries when she lays down or yawns, and doesn't want to drink her bottle...

Mommy and Daddy get a clue... Perhaps its her ear???

Mommy spoon feeds Holly Motrin with Yogurt at 2:00

She is almost playful by 5:00 when we go to the Doctor and her fever is down again.. She is a YoYo.

Yup! Ear Infection, but only SLIGHT!!!! OMG Can you imagine if it was a "bad" one. She says if we had come the day before she might not have caught it. I guess that's why they make you wait "72 hours"

We fill the prescription for Amoxicillian, the Doctor says it should be easy to give her, kids love the flavor... HAHA

Mommy tries the spoon method and she nearly pukes it out right there with a gag and a "yuk" face... I guess she doesn't like "bubble gum" and the dose is a whole teaspoon 2x daily, so it would take several bites to get it down this way.

Mommy spoons her another dose of Motrin around 7:00 fever is only around 101. Hoping if her ear doesn't hurt she might drink a bottle.

We mix the Antibiotics with yogurt juice, but 2 ounces isn't enough to mask the flavor. She ends up needing to drink 4 ounces.. It only takes me about 3 hours to get it all down... and I have to do this 2x a day... for 10 days... hmmmm

But guess what.. 10:00 PM rolls around, she's had Motrin, Antibiotics, and she is fast asleep.

Daddy even transferred her to the crib when he went to bed around Midnight.

Things are looking up!

We won't talk about Mommy's sore throat swollen lymph nodes int he back of her neck and under her chin, or the shallow breathing, I am "sure" it is lack of sleep and missing a dose of allergy meds.. have I mentioned how hot I have been... But maybe that is the Toasty Tot I have had laying on top of me for the last 3 days.

So We have missed 2 Speech, 1 Feeding, PT, and IDS/OT Appts. How am I going to make up 5 Appts next week, when I already have 5 a week?? Sigh!

When Evan was almost a year (I think), he had an awful fever for a few days that would just not let up, and he was miserable! I brought him to the doctor after a couple of days, and he said he had a slight ear infection. But, we both agreed that his lethargic behavior and high fever didn't match a slight ear infection.
And we were right! On the 4th (I think) morning, the fever was completely gone, and he had tiny spots--ALL OVER HIS BODY! It was probably Roseola (never had heard of it before, but apparently, most children get it before they go to kindergarten...just not all get the spots).
Of course, it could just be Holly's ears...just wanted to share this with you. :)
Hope she feels better soon!
