Impromptu BBQ

Last Sunday we had an Impromptu BBQ at our place. Originally Tony and Tara, our friends from Florida, were planning a house warming. They ended up cancelling and we decided to have them for dinner instead, since they had just moved out and we hadn't seen them for a while.

Well, Joel, Tony, and Aleutia (Cole's Mom) all went to High School together, and Tony hadn't seen Aleutia in ages, so we decided to invite her and Cole and Melissa (her Partner) over to join us, we figured it would be a great Gainesvillian reunion and Holly would have someone to play with. Cole was eager to try out the Ball pit, which he hadn't had a chance to play in since March when he was over for Holly;s Birthday. He had a blast "swimming" around in the balls. Holly liked playing the peek a boo and funny face game with him through the netting. Both had fun.On our way home from a Birthday party we stopped at Trader Joes and picked up some food. Joel got a cool Guacamole kit, which is something at includes two avocados a clove of garlic, and a few other items, that you can throw into a food processor, and it makes great guacamole. Joel picked up some chicken with Bones, which I warned him not to do. He ended up on the porch from about 7:30-9:30 grilling the entire time, we felt bad that he spent the entire time cooking.

In the afternoon, our mutual friends, Micheal and Diana (Otter's parents) called Tony to find out what time they should arrive at the House Warming, and tony realized (Ooops... he forgot to Cancel with everyone) so we ended up inviting them over as well, it has been a while since we saw otter, and the more the merrier, babies are always welcome, and there parent's, well they can come too :-) Otter is such a big boy now. I think he is just 6 months old and he weights just over 21 pounds, that is more then Holly weights at 15 months.

Micheal recently worked with Joel at Tippett, but he decided to stay home with Otter, I think he is having a blast, even if it has only been one week so far, so I am going to try and remember to invite him over to some Mommy events. They brought over some Watermelon and Cantaloupe which was so yummy and really hit the spot, I had been craving watermelon, but Joel never lets me buy it.

Melissa and Aleutia brought over some Cherries that just came in season from her store, and they too were very yummy.. Along with that Guacamole and some chips, we all snacked and played and chatted while Joel cooked. Of course everyone headed out to the kitchen to give Joel a hand and visit with him while he was grilling away.

Aleutia is vegetarian and she fed Cole some of her veggie burger, as she does, holly was stalking her food so she gave her a bit and she liked it and ate some of it which was great. She had tried some of Cole's tofu hot dog bits earlier int he evening but didn't really like those. She sucked on some watermelon, and had a bite of cherry.

Later while I was eating my dinner all I had left was some BBQ Chicken Strips so I gave her a sliver, and not only did she love the BBQ Sauce, she liked the chicken bits, so I gave her quite a few and teased Joel that next time he would have to cook extra for Holly because she was eating my whole dinner.

But she is inevitably a grazer, because even with that, she would take a bite from my plate, run off and play, and then take another bite. hey.. I guess she is eating, so a Mommy can't complain.
