The Nutcracker Again

So Holly LOVED the Nutcracker so much we decided to go and see it again. This time the show was at the Julia Morgan Center in Berkeley which is a Ballet school and we were able to get the 27$ tickets for only *$ as part of our YMCA group. We attended the show with Citlali and Olivia. It was good, but not as good as the other show. They did only the "First Act" so they never got to the Sugar plum Fairies. Also the section in the other performance where all the various ballerina's come out in groups like by nationality or type was not part of this show. So there was less variation in music and very little in costume changes. Also the Lesher show had someone acting as a Narrator "The Mommy" telling the story, this show had the ballet Teacher come out before hand and talk to all the kids about the show, introducing the characters and telling them how to be good audience members. This show also didn't have a curtain which upset Holly and was in an older building with high drafty rafters/ceilings which I think made for strange acoustics so Holly actually wanted to wear the head phones the entire time of this show. Don;t get me wrong she liked it and had fun, but she got bored with the same type of dancing, music, and costumes, for so long, unlike the other show that had a lot of variety.

This year I was lucky to get to see two shows at a discount, next year I think if i don;t find a deal it will be worth the money to see a "nice" performance. Though at Julia Morgan they have one performance where afterward you can have tea with the ballerinas which might be fun.

All this Ballet has inspired her and we will be starting a Ballet class in January.
