Sadie Dey's with Lucian

The weekend before our trip to NY we had a play date with Lucian. We met at Sadie Dey's cafe for an early lunch on the weekend so the Daddy's could join us.Lucian was shy at first, but he eventually blossomed and explored and crawled all over seeing what there was for him to get into. He has a very focused attention span and notices little things and is a very calm baby. But he did have his fair share of excitement he liked watching Holly and the other kids running around and he did try and get in on the action, climbing and crawling about.Holly was into everything as usual, and it was fun for Daddy to play with her. Here he is spinning her in a little tilty chair. She sort of liked it, but it wasn't her favorite thing ever. It is a good vestibular activity though. Here Holly was doing some wonderful stretching. She was trying to spin this ball contraption, but it was hard for her to get it to turn.Lucian discovered this spinning mix and match puzzle and he really liked it. He enjoyed making the pictures turn and turn and it was fun for him to hold himself up and cruise. This is a little bouncy horse, it is a lot of fun. The kids can't really touch the ground though when they are riding it because they are so little. But with a little help from mom they can bounce up and down. Holly loves the bouncing, and Lucian quite enjoyed it too.Holly didn't stay anywhere for too long though. Here she is climbing around in one of the play structures. Trying to make friends, but this boy was a little shy and scared of her I think. Here we are playing with Lucian, he is sitting in Joel's lap and Holly is coming to say hello. She really had fun with him and liked to try and head butt him.
Isn't he such a sweetie. I love that little grin, the lip curl. Its his little Elvis smile. He is a handsome boy! Here he is taking a turn on the spinning chair, it looks like he liked it about as much as Holly, which isn't saying a lot. But he was curious about everything and wanted to give it a try. This is a cool little rocking horse type thing, its shaped like a see saw but its only for one person, I wonder if once upon a time it had some kind of handle too it so you could hang on. This is a little push car. Holly likes pushing them around and climbing on and off and on and off, but she still doesn't know how to propel herself. Here Lucian is playing with a familiar toy. I am not sure if he has this same square, but Holly has the triangle version of it, it helped teach her how to sit up when she was a wee little one. Its still fun to spin and play with.Holly is pushing around the car. Lucian gave it a try too to help him with the walking but the friction was too slick and it went too fast for his liking, so he didn't play for long.It wouldn't be a play date at Sadie Dey's without several bouts on the slide. The socks make it easier for Holly to go down without getting stuck and holding her heels in, but make it really hard to climb back up.She loves playing at the base of the slide. Here is a video of her trying to Help Lucian when it's his turn to go down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZksLk-YXcoLucian played with a lot of the riding toys. I think it was mostly because he isn't walking yet. He crawls really fast, but when he is on a riding toy he is upright and holding himself up and able to control his environment more. Here Holly is trying to make friends again. I'm not sure if climbing into the castle the little girl is playing with is the best way to achieve that, but the little girl was old enough to understand she was a "baby" and luckily didn't mind the intrusion. She was very patient with her and we opened up the castle so it made a wide L shape and she could still play while Holly sat next to her and watched. This is another big bouncy ball. Holly loves this one, she sits on it and we do the bouncy bounce game and she just laughs and laughs. Another vestibular activity, but one she enjoys much more. She looks so grown up in this picture, walking with a purpose, and seemingly very tall. They grow up way too fast. it is amazing watching how her play evolves over time. Here little Lucian is climbing up the stairs to the slide. he was a great climber and liked holding onto the sides and looking out at his new heights.Holly enjoys hanging out on the platform, like a little club house, but eventually she will come down. She used to slide all on her own, but then later started getting her feet stuck so now she slides holding my hand. Here Daddy is catching her, or maybe pushing her back up the slide so she can go again. She loves the slide and will go over and over if you let her, she would rather a short cut to the top though. This is one of Holly's favorite Puzzles, since we hadn't been here for a while she was excited to play with it again. Its funny that we came the weekend before NY, as when we returned home and got a package from my parents with a few toys, this puzzle was there. She has enjoyed having it at home. This little doll was the start of much drama. There was an older girl playing whose mother was on a laptop not really watching her. and this little girl, probably around 30 months was very bossy. She would take toys from the other kids and hoard them and refused to take turns or share. She took Holly's doll and put it into the shopping cart. Holly wasn't happy with the replacement doll, how she could tell the difference I wasn't sure. The shopping cart was also one of her favorite toys. The little girl would leave it and then as soon as Holly went to play she would run over and shake her finger and say no no no and grab the cart from her.You can see how unhappy it makes her. She was a glutton for punishment though and no matter how often I would try and redirect her she would run back over to the bully and try again. She was so persistent. Here is little Lucian playing the machine gun game... his legs taking aim. Us grown ups sat and watched the drama unfold on the "playground" as the bully made her rounds until there was an older girl who put her in her place. Funny as many tears she prompted in her wake, her mother was totally oblivious. The one time she did notice my hysterical daughter she came and said, oh she isn't so good with the sharing yet. Well duh! Thanks kind of obvious, but she never prompted her to take a turn, she just went back to her laptop.Once she had the older girl to follow around and look up too, she stopped terrorizing the little kids and all was well again. Holly finally got a turn with the shopping cart, but by then she was so frazzled and tired, we were ready to go. We had played for nearly 4 hours, and had a wonderful afternoon.
