A Month in the Life - 1
This one was not nearly as scary though, but I was still pretty upset. I already had a really long evening; you see I never wanted to put this blue dress on in the first place. I kept telling Mommy no, and I showed her the green Kai-Lan dress I wanted to wear instead. I know she understood me, I mean how much clearer can you get then jumping up and down while pointing at the dress and shaking your head no at the one she was holding. But she did not listen, and before I knew it I had one arm in and then a second and I was wearing the dress. It actually was not as bad as I expected it to be, but by the time I was dressed I was just plain mad that Mommy didn’t listen to me so even though I didn’t mind the dress like I thought I would, I was not going to let her off easily. So I waited until she got me a yogurt juice and put on the Trick or Treating Kai-lan episode on the TV. Then I cheered right up! I liked the dress after all and was only afraid it would be scratching like the one she tried to put me in on the night before.
So here we are, on a dark warm night with four of my friends, in a blue princess dress holding onto a blue Pumpkin and bawling my eyes out. This time I did not want to be upset any more, but it was just so hard to calm myself down. I tried really hard. One time I was so excited that all my friends were going to get to knock on the door of the next house without me that I said Mommy Down and we were walking to the house so I could get some candy too, but I tripped on the edge of the driveway and lawn. It was not a bad trip, I did not really hurt myself, but it completely surprised me and that was it. I was all upset over again. This time it was worse, it’s like the three strikes rule. My body just remembered all the things that upset me throughout the evening and I lost it. It is a lot of work to keep it together when there is so much going on around me that I have to pay attention too. So I just held on super tight and Mommy gave me the biggest hug ever. After that I did NOT want her to put me down at all. She sent Daddy away, which I didn’t like either, and we kept on walking to the next house. What was she thinking, did she not hear me crying in her ear. I didn’t want to go, she asked me if I wanted to go home, and I didn’t want that either. It is so tough to be me. I was not sure at this point what I wanted; I simply lost control of myself.
We kept walking and Mommy pointed to each house and pointed to my friends and I watched as they each knocked on the doors and got candy. I think that upset me even more, I wanted to go with them and do it too, but I was too upset so I was trapped between my emotions and my desires. At this point Daddy finally came back and Mommy handed me over to him. I didn’t want her to let go, but I think I was getting heavy for her. Daddy had another yogurt juice, which at the time was comforting, but I only drank a few sips because what I really wanted was Mommy and my pacifier and at the moment I had neither. So I just yelled Mommy, Mommy, Mommy until she took me again and I could hold her tight and I was finally able to calm down a little bit.
By this time my friends were far ahead and we had to skip several houses to catch up, but this gave me a chance to catch my breath and then we got to the next house. I said, “Knock Knock” and Mommy asked if I wanted to go down and got and get some treats, but I told her “No, Mommy up!” she listened! And she carried me over to my friends and I reached out and took a big piece of chocolate from the nice lady at the door. Mommy reminded me to thank her and Say Bye Bye, and I did. But it was so much work to go up to the house, and all I could think of was the scary house from earlier, I was afraid there might be a monster lurking around every corner that by the time I got my candy bar I lost it again. This time though it was much easier to recover and I was able to calm dawn as we walked to the next house. Daddy kept telling me to look at the stars and I would look at them and point and then search for the moon, which was what I really wanted to see. I would say “Stars” so he knew I saw them, but the moon was still nowhere to be found. He also kept asking me if I wanted to finish my yogurt juice which after a few times was irritating me. I had already said no several times and I felt like he was just not listening. I know that’s not the case he just did not want me to forget that he was still holding it and that I could have more if I wanted but I didn’t forget and did not need the reminder.
At this point I could tell mommy was getting tired of holding me, I guess I am not a little baby any more, at least I am not small and tiny like a little baby, but I am not that grown up either. I suppose Mommy could tell I was feeling a little better so she lifted me up higher onto just one shoulder. I liked this because I could still hold onto her face and hair and neck and still give her kisses, but it seemed to be easier for her to carry me like this. By this time my Blue Pumpkin was really starting to fill up and I did not want to hold it anymore so I made Daddy carry it for me. Mommy and I would go up to each house, I would reach out and take a piece of Candy and then we would go back to Daddy and I would put it into the blue pumpkin.
Now my friends were crossing the street going to the next house and this one had lots of stairs, now normally I am a huge fan of the stairs, but just the thought of walking up all of them in the big fluffy princess dress was too much. Luckily I don’t think Mommy wanted to walk up 4 flights of stairs holding me either, so we jumped ahead to the next house. Finally I was the first in line that meant I could actually knock on the door and so I made the leap and said, “Mommy Down” she was so excited and she put me down and held my hand and together we walked over to the door. There was a little porch and four steps to walk up. Mommy pulled my skirt up for me and held it in one hand while also holding my hand tight and I went right up to the door and knocked on it. It opened and a nice old lady came out and told me what a pretty princess I was and she had a big bowl of candy and she let me reach in and pick one. I got a lollipop and then she told me I could have one more if I wanted so I took a chocolate bar. Then I ran over to mommy and hugged her leg and said “up!” and we walked back over to Daddy. And then I put the two pieces of Candy into the bucket.
Just then the rest of my friends came over and it was their turn. Mommy put me all the way up onto her shoulders this time and then we went to a few more houses. But that’s when I saw my friend’s house and realized that we were back and trick or treating was over. I was really excited to go back inside and play some more. Trick or treating was ok. I was happy to get so many treats, but it took a lot out of me. When we went inside Mommy let me take off my dress and put on a tank top because we were both so hot from the walking around, and then I was really happy. She let me eat chocolate too. It was a fun night.

Great Uncle Ty Visits
It went quite well and he was able to visit with many friends who were in town also. While here he also had time for a lot of site seeing, and got a little too much sun.
Ok, maybe a more direct tactic, you are all looking in the direction, so let me get in your line of site, so you are sure to notice me!Friday, April 10, 2009
Audiologist - Is Nothing Sacred?
So Holly had gotten up late on Friday because she woke up the night before and she wasn't having therapy in the morning, so she went down for her nap late, at around noon. I woke her when i was ready to head out the door to our 1:45 appointment. I admit I was in a bit of a rush, and she was still waking up. Waking in the car seat though was nice and gave her a chance to ease into things and when I arrived and checked in I changed her. Since her nap was short I didn't think she was that hungry yet and the doctor came for us, so I didn't feed her.
We went into a quiet room and the doctor told me he was going to play some tones and typically if you hear them you would look in the direction that they came from. I was expecting some quiet noises, Holly was sitting on my lap and then suddenly was this loud noise and then there was a box that lit up and inside was a monkey clanging two chimes together. it was horrifying and loud and holly agreed. She immediately started to scream. It took me several minutes to calm her, while from the other room the doctor reminded me he could not do the test if she was crying.. Like I couldn't figure that out, so then i say, do you want something to eat in hopes of soothing her and he says, she can;t eat during the test. WTF! Well eventually he had to let me make her a bottle, as she wouldn't stop crying otherwise. So I did and she was happily eating away. he attempted to resume the test at that point, he didn't say he was going to but I heard the tones in the room. She never moved her head though, when she is eating a bottle she is so focus, but perhaps she moved her eyes when there was a noise to alert him that she heard it.
He then came in saying he wasn't getting much and do I think she would let me put something in her ear. I said he could try and he did. She by this time didn't like him, he also had a beard which she has had a negative reaction to before, and she didn't like something in her ear, but I was able to keep it in for several minutes even though she was sort of whimpering and whining. I tried to distract her by letting her look at the device it was attached too, and my phone and various other object. He did something on a computer, presumably made some noises and watched her reaction or it tested something directly. He then said he had to test her ears to make sure she didn't have any ear infections that day.
So again something went into her ear, but this time I had to hold her head so she would be still for a moment on each side. She hated that, but then we were done. The whole ordeal was like only 10-15 minutes. He told me to get our stuff and I followed him out. he then said that he may need to do more testing on another day when she is in a better mood. I stopped him there and said, she has just been fed, and you saw I just changed her. She woke up from her nap moments before we got her, so this is the best we are going to do, when you do things that scare her.
He said that for the most part things seemed ok and he would write up a report and I could talk it over with my pediatrician. For the most part he was not very forth coming or friendly at all, and if it weren't for toys in the room, I would think he never dealt with a child before, l and well maybe he hadn't.
I let Holly play with the toys in the waiting room, but really she wanted to explore the hospital hallways, so I let her wander off, of course with me right behind. She particularly liked the vending machine, and pushing the little door back and forth. I had to keep her from the elevator, because that looked especially fun.
Eventually they let us head back and I told the therapist that I had not received an email with her report and was afraid perhaps it went into my spam (thought I have been checking that and was being polite, I think she never sent it) I reminded her that it had been 4 weeks since our appointment and she indicated it would take 2-3 to get the report to me. She gave me her email address again and said it was sent and completed and she would follow up, but could not right then as she had another patient.
I doubt it was done because I am pretty sure my pediatrician would have called me if she got a copy of the report, but non the less I said ok, and I will email her a reminder on Monday.
After that we went to swim class, and Katie was meeting us for a therapy session in the pool. Katie was so thrilled about this, as she had been swimming since she was 6 months old and was on the swim team and everything. She told all her co-workers she would be swimming with us to make them envious and she was excited.
Holly was less then thrilled. She was already clingy and hadn't had the best afternoon so far, but she tolerated Katie's Enthusiasm. none of our usual friends were there, Kareem, Sarah, or other Meet-up moms, so it worked out pretty good. Katie was amazed. She said that holly was definitely much more open to stretching, either because she was more relaxed in the water or because she was so distracted she simply didn't care and let Katie move her around. When the doors on the bus opened and closed, Holly's arms stretched out wide, and when we sang motor boat, we stretched her thighs out straight and her neck back to stay out of the water. Even in between songs Katie stretched her when she could.
Holly loves the pool and normally wants to stay int he water long after class is over and I tend to linger around an extra 15 minutes until the locker rooms empty out, but today holly was done. After the last song, and toys were collected she was ready to go. The look she gave me simply asked, "Mom, is nothing Sacred" I felt bad turning her fun pool time into a therapy session, but that's ok, we certainly won;t do it every week and Katie felt like she did more stretching in that session then she had ever done with Holly before.

My Birthday Party!
On The Spur of the Moment Mom decided to do an Underwater theme, She has always called me her little fishy, and I am a Pisces. But really when she picked my cake, she decided to theme the party around it. You'll see it later, but it is all under water.
This is the cool table cloth that my mom found, I think it really helped brighten up the room. When I woke up from my nap, just before the party the first thing I did was pull on it, it just looked like so much fun.
Oma thought it would be fun to get little presents for all of my friends, it was a lot of fun to pick them out. I loved these rattles, they were good to chew on and made lots of noise. I also found cute little books. In the bag we themed it for Under Water, I found rubber duckies, and fish bath toys, and Mom thought it would be cool to give everyone a swim Diaper so I could invite them to Friday swim class and they would be prepared to try it out once and see if they like it. We also got some cool water colored teethers and bubbles.
I really liked the streamers, these ones are little sea horses, there are other ones that are blue and pink and I liked to chew on them when they fell. They made cool crinkly sounds. I liked the Balloons, and we found these clear ones that had fish on them at the party store.
I think this is my Favorite Balloon, it reminds me of Mack, my Tanta Kat's Turtle. But I especially liked the ribbon tied to it. I also had a cool Balloon that had fish floating inside.
Oma, me, and Mommy went shopping at Costco on Saturday morning. It was a very long day but I had fun. Mom wanted to buy a cheese and meat platter but they had run out of them, she was so excited to find this cheese tray and improvised with some crackers, she also had some left over sour dough bread and Oma cut it up to snack on with the cheese. Mom let me taste test the cheese Saturday night before the party. I liked Swiss and Cheddar best.
Some of my friends parents are vegetarians, so we wanted to make sure there were yummy veggies for them to eat. I wasn't allowed to have any of the carrots, but there was a bunch left over and Daddy is going to steam them up and make me some purees.
Mommy really liked the Fruit bowl, there was yummy mango and strawberry inside.
The main course was going to be Hamburgers from the grill. So when Granny and Daddy went to the store they made sure to get lots of fixings to put on top of them. Since Mommy only eats plain turkey burgers, she totally didn't think to get this, and thought it was great for Granny to remember. They got Onions and Avocado (which I don't like) and tomatoes and lettuce.
This is my favorite part. Its the baby Buffet and I stocked it full with all my favorite treats. We had yummy yogurt juices, and puffs and teething biscuits and yogurt drops and even some new Banana cookies that Oma found for me when we were shopping.
We had a bunch of other Gerber Organic foods out that people could try if they wanted, and sippy cups, and even string cheese, I like that a lot.
We set up a fun play area outside for the older kids. The fun play mat was from Oma at Christmas and it helped make the ground softer, there was also some turf under the teepee. I didn't get much of a chance to play outside but I am looking forward to having Daddy set this up for me again in the summer, he even said he might set it up in the kitchen so I can get around the whole house using the tunnels and tents.
These are some flowers that my Nanna picked from the garden to set up outside. I think they are pretty.
This is the grill daddy used to make food for all the parents. They had Burgers, veggie, beef, and turkey, and some garlic cheese sausage. Daddy spent a lot of time outside cooking and the parents went to visit him and chatted, I think he had fun.
The Guests Arrive:
Here are some of the Dads hanging out in the kitchen. It was sorta crowded with my friends and their moms in the living room, and I think the dads had fun talking about computers and games and stuff.
This is me showing Cole the Leapfrog Table that Mommy got for me on Craigslist. Cole is 10 and 1/2 months and he just starting pulling himself up. That's his Mommy Melissa, and his other Mommy Aleutia is from Gainseville. My mom met her at the pool one day when Granny was visiting, it was so cool because she knew my Daddy and my Uncle Alan when they were in High School, and recognized my Granny. It has been so fun knowing Cole and his Mommies.
We had lots of fun playing music and hanging out. There is me in my Pink Party Dress. Mommy made this for me when I was in her belly. I wore it once just after I was born, and she used it in my birth announcements. She thought it would be cool to wear it for the party, its like a top now, I have gotten so big.
This is my friend Sarah. Mommy met her Mom Isabel at her Mom's group when I was just a little baby, she started going when I was about 9 weeks old, and a few month later she met Sarah and Isabel. They both stopped going now that we are older but they stayed friends and we see each other all the time now at the pool. I hope Sarah will come over again for a Play date soon. Sarah is 9 months old, but she is much bigger then me. Sarah is fun to play with because she is so easy going and like me she is very social.
Here is a picture of Sarah playing with Cole.
This is Miriam. She is a lot of fun. She is over two years old. I hope that I will be able to run and play just like her soon. Daddy said she had so much fun crawling through the tent and playing in the back yard. She even pushed my ball all the way into the tent through the tunnel.
This is Issac Miriam's little brother. He is about 10 months old. He was shy when he first arrived at my party, I think its because he just woke up from a nap, but after hanging out with his parents for a while he was ready to come and play with us.
Sarah decided to try out my bouncer. She isn't pulling up or cruising yet, and her mommy thought that she might like bouncing. I think she had fun, but she was also very popular, we all wanted to come and hang out with her once she started bouncing.
There is Issac, he also is just learning to pull himself up and My mommy even saw him stand all on his own for a few seconds.
This is Lucian and I have know him since we were both in our Mommies Bellies. Lucian was my very first friend and he is just like my big soft cuddly Teddy bear. We play together a lot.
His parents live in the city though so sometimes we don't get to see each other as often as we like. He was a Preemie when he was first born so I didn't get to play with him for a while but now he is so big. He is just over 8 months old.
This is Lucian's Mommy Tracey. She is making sure I don't hurt myself, she doesn't realize that my new trick is pushing the chair across the room. It makes it easier then having to crawl from place to place, I was showing the other babies how I do it so they could try it too.
The Cake:
This is me. I am getting ready to get my cake. Mommy put this silly hat on me to take pictures. I didn't much like it and tried to take it off, but then I saw how much Oma wanted me to wear it and figured I could leave it on for a few minutes, it wasn't like they were making me wear it for the whole party or anything.
This was the very special cake my Mommy got just for me to eat. When My Granny and Daddy went to the store to pick it up the store didn't make it right and when they got home my Mommy wasn't happy. My granny was so wonderful because she took it back to the store and had them fix it. They added the cool corner decorations and fixed the letters. Those are my initials on the side of the cake and a big 1 for me, my 1st birthday.
This is the cake we got for the parents. I liked the Nemo fish and after the cake was all gone I was able to keep them and play with them. There are colorful candles on the cake that spell my name and after everyone sang Happy Birthday to me, my mommy helped me blow them out. This cake was vanilla and it had banana inside it.
This is me eating my cake. Mommy says I have never had sugar before, but daddy says that there is sugar in formula and baby food. The frosting was squishy and fun to play with, Oma says it was butter cream and she splurged and had a bite with me. I tried to have the cake with my spoon, but it was much easier to eat with my fingers. It was so messy though.
I ended up getting it all over my face, and not enough of it in my mouth.
The Presents:
After my mommy cleaned me all up it was time to open presents. Miriam, Issac, and Sarah had to go home before I got a chance to open them. There parents said they were ready to take a nap. I loved the shiny red paper on this one.

It was these really cool nesting cups that not only do they go inside each other but can also stack on top of each other and make a tower even taller then I am. Also the container that they come in is also a shape sorter. and it has a cool handle.

I had lots of fun playing with them. It is fun to dump them out and take them apart. There wasn't a label on them though, so I am not sure who got it for me, but Thank You! Hopefully you can come over and play with it and me soon.

This present is from Lucian. We had lots of fun unwrapping it together, the paper was really pretty and easy to get out of the bag. Mommy said the cool paper wasn't the present though.

Inside was blocks, and Mommy helped me open them. These were so many cool colors and they are so fun to chew on. Not only are they wood, but one of the sides has a cool pattern and it is textured. There are letters and even animals on one side. When I am older I can learn my ABC's and right now I am starting to learn to stack them up.
Lucian also got me a very cool Dragon. His Mommy said it just fit my family. My mom and dad have lots of dragons, and now I have my own. He even has wings.

This present is from my Mommy and Daddy. I am not sure what to do with them yet. they don't really stay on top of each other, Mommy says you have to push them together and build things. My granny says that they are called lego's and when my daddy was a little boy these were his favorite toys. he helped pick them out, but my mom picked the color. I like pink and purple.

This is me and my granny and a cool Dolly that she got me. When I am a little older I can play with her and learn all of body parts. She is anatomically correct. But I am not sure what that means, thats just what I heard her say to my mommy.
Granny also got me this cool bus. It is a leapfrog toy. The frogs inside sing songs and it helps me learn my letters. It is fun to push the buttons and hear the songs and I get to hear what sounds all the letters make.

These are blocks from my Oma. They are squishy and soft. They are a little bigger then the wooden ones, and a bit easier to stack, but they don't make loud sounds when I bang them together. I do like chewing on them though.

This is me and Cole playing with them. You can see that I was able to put one on top of the other. I am just learning how to do that, but its more fun to knock them down and chew on them
.

This is another present from my Mommy and Daddy, and I heard them say I am not ready for it yet. I don't know what they are talking about though, cuz it is so much fun pulling every one of those round things off and throwing them on the floor. I can even collect them and hold 4 in my hand at once. They also clink when you bang them together and they are fun to bite.

Mommy had to help me unwrap it. I liked the colors and it lights up and spins too, but I am not sure how to make it do that yet. But my Mommy can make it go.

I am not so good at putting the peices on yet. I think thats why mommy said its a little old for me. Shhh don't tell her, but I have already lost one of those round things. I like taking them with me after playing in my room, and now I forgot where I left it.

This is a cool hat that I got from Grandpa Jeff and Grandma Cynde. They weren't at my party but the box came in the mail and it had presents inside. My mom was excited because she likes to dress me up in new cloths. Good Grief! It came with this hat, and a warm sweater and cool leggings. I like those.

There are animals that run and leap and play and shapes too. I love turning pages and this is a fun book I can play with all by myself.

This is a big box from my Oma. It was fun to unwrap and pull off the red paper.

Inside though was something even more fun then the paper. It was this cool box with build in toys.
I wanted to share it with all my friends and show them how it works. Here is Lucian pushing the animals around on top.

One of my favorite parts of this toy is that I can use it to cruise. Mommy left it in the middle of the room so I can walk around it and play.
The sides have really cool doors that I can open and close with animals behind them. And on another side there are all of the letters and they spin round and round.

All of my friends liked playing with the Busy Zoo too, even Otter came over with his Daddy's help. He was the littlest baby at our party. He is only 4 months old, but I met him the first time when he was an even littler baby, and his Mommy says he weights 16 pounds now, that is almost as big as me. But he is a boy, so thats probably why.
After all of the presents we all played with the new toys. Otter was ready for a nap so he went home pretty soon after this. Cole stayed a little longer to play and Lucian was last to leave. But his parents and my parents hadn't see each other for a long time and our Daddies went into the computer room to talk, so we played for a while. It was a lot of fun.
Quinn was supposed to come too my party too but His parents got sick and he couldn't. But my Mommy said I can invite him over to play on another day and maybe Daddy will set up my tent and tunnel again, I think that would be fun.
I was so tired after my party. But I took a long nap before it started so I didn't want to go to sleep right away. I heard Mommy say something about Day light savings time messing everything up, maybe thats a cool thing that lets her let me stay up late? I had some dinner first and played some more with all my new toys. My granny tried to clean up and put them all away, but that was fun because I got to knock all the blocks down off of the table and they went crash.
After a while my mommy gave me a bottle and laid down with me, but I was so excited from my busy day I didn't want to sleep. I guess eventually I did fall asleep though.
So far this has been the best Birthday Party I have ever had!
